The Taj Mahal
The Taj Mahal is one of the most breathtakingly beautiful buildings in the world. But perhaps what is most compelling about this site is the story behind it. It was built by Indian Emperor Shah Jahan to be his final resting place alongside his third and favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal. She died in 1631 while giving birth to their 14th child. While she was dying, Shah Jahan promised that he would never remarry and that he would build a magnificent monument to house their tombs.
The Pyramids of Giza
The pyramids deserve their spot as one of the World's Wonders because building them was one of the most ambitious and successful engineering feats ever undertaken. That's pretty impressive, considering they were constructed by people who only had stone tools at their disposal. The most famous structures are the Sphinx, Pyramid of Khafre, Pyramid of Menkaure, and the Great Pyramid of Khufu.
The Northern Lights
The Northern Lights are an incredible natural phenomenon during which vivid streaks of color shimmer across the night sky. Part of what makes them bucket-list-worthy is that they are so elusive. Even traveling to parts of the world near the Arctic Circle, such as Alaska, Canada, Iceland, Greenland, Norway, Sweden, and Finland, doesn't guarantee that you'll be able to witness the lights. The conditions and the location have to be just right.
The Amazon Rainforest
This is the world's most significant rainforest. It contains a fifth of all living plant and animal species on Earth. It also produces 20% of our oxygen! There are so many ways to experience the Amazon. These include taking a cruise down the Amazon River, staying in a luxury rainforest lodge, canopy climbing, paddle boarding, and traversing the jungle on specialized mountain bikes.
Bora Bora, French Polynesia
Bora Bora, a tiny island in French Polynesia, is one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Visitors can explore the coastline by boat or kayak, take a dolphin safari tour, snorkel, or visit majestic Mount Otemanu, one of two peaks of an extinct volcano. Visitors can take a guided tour around the base or view the mountain from a boat or helicopter.
We hope this list inspires you to create a travel bucket list of unforgettable destinations!
